Santander Cycles Secures Major Serco UpgradeSerco has secured a new £220m contract from Transport for London (TfL) to continue operating the Santander Cycles scheme from 1 August 2026. The initial five-year deal is valued at £110m, with an option to extend to ten years. The agreement includes the UK’s first in-dock e-bike charging system, upgraded terminals, and a new app with QR-code bike release. Serco has expanded its partnership with Lyft Urban Solutions, which will provide core technology for the scheme’s next phase. This includes the upgraded mobile app and electrified docking with in-dock e-bike charging. Ballarat Extends Shared Micromobility ProgramThe City of Ballarat in Victoria, Australia, has voted to continue offering shared e-scooters and e-bikes after a three-year trial. The city will launch a competitive process to select a single operator under a new three-year permit and introduce designated parking bays, with the potential to expand shared e-bike availability alongside e-scooters. Since December 2021, more than 375k trips have been recorded. Halfords Reports 9% Revenue Increase in Cycling SalesHalfords, the UK’s motoring and cycling retailer, reported a strong rebound in cycling sales, with the segment delivering 9% year-on-year growth and generating £208m in revenue in the first half of FY26. Growth was particularly strong in children’s bikes, where Halfords holds two-thirds of the UK market, as well as at its performance brand Tredz. CEO Henry Birch said the results reinforce the company’s confidence in meeting full-year FY26 expectations and pursuing further growth through improved technology and data capabilities. Forest Partners With Octopus EnergyUK’s e-bike operator Forest has partnered with Octopus Energy, which will power all 20k Forest e-bikes in London with zero-carbon electricity starting this December, making Forest the only operator running both its fleet and service vehicles entirely on green energy. The move supports Forest’s goal of becoming net-zero by 2030.
Malta NGO Open to Return of Rental E-ScootersMaltese mobility NGO Rota says it would support bringing rental e-scooters back to Malta and Gozo if the government introduces clear rules and proper infrastructure. The group outlined four requirements: a strong regulatory framework, stricter operator standards such as geofencing and docked parking, better cycling and scooter infrastructure, and phased pilots with KPIs. Malta banned rental e-scooters in March 2024 due to pavement clutter and safety issues, and while the Transport Ministry did not signal a reversal, it noted new incentives encouraging residents to shift from cars to scooters. Victoria Bans Modified E-Bikes on TrainsIn Australia, Victoria will ban converted and modified e-bikes from metropolitan and regional trains and station areas from 21 December 2025, as these devices are considered to pose higher lithium-ion battery fire risks. Compliant, factory-built e-bikes and e-scooters will still be allowed on trains and in ticketed zones.
NAVEE Unveils XT5 Pro ScooterNAVEE has launched the XT5 Pro, an all-terrain electric scooter designed to extend micromobility beyond urban streets and into parks, trails, and mixed-surface environments. The model features a 1.2kW motor, dual suspension, 10-inch off-road tires, and a maximum range of up to 65 km. The XT5 Pro also includes enhanced lighting, improved braking, and a smart app for remote locking and diagnostics. The e-scooter is priced at $1,499. Baku Expands Micromobility NetworkIn Azerbaijan, Baku has expanded its micromobility network with 47 km of new lanes across 43 streets and avenues, as part of a citywide infrastructure project led by the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency. The city has also added 650 scooter parking stations and 500 bicycle parking areas equipped with over 900 racks. Seattle Launches E-Cargo Bike ProgramThe City of Seattle has launched its Commercial E-Cargo Bike Program, inviting local businesses to apply for permits to use e-cargo bikes for deliveries and logistics. Under new city rules adopted in 2025, commercial e-cargo bikes are legally recognised and can access designated curbside parking and protected bike lanes. The program removes permit fees through 2027 and aims to support sustainability, reduce congestion, and lower delivery costs for participating companies. Got your micromobility moment to share?
